Teen Builds Web Site Based On Hobby And Earns Money From It!
Teen Internet Businesses
Many teens build Web sites these days but do they know how to develop it into an internet business?
Here's the story of "Amy"
Two years ago, Amy was a 15 year old High School student with a passion for styling hair. She loves to:
- Braid
- Corn Row Braid
- Do Hair Wraps
- Add Extensions
- Create Up-Do’s For:
- Formal dances (Homecoming and Prom)
- Graduations
- Weddings
Amy began by practicing hair styles on her friends. She never did it to earn money, it was just FUN! Amy’s talents however, began to develop a high demand. After all, these girls and their parents would normally spend lots of money for these types of hair services.
Soon Amy had too many requests and not enough time but she didn’t want to CHARGE her friends!
Amy's Mom Suggests She Build A Web Site About Hair Styling
Amy’s mom suggested to her that she could build a Web site all about styling hair where she could sell hair products, refer people to salons, offer “how to” tips, etc., to help supplement her hobby. Amy had taken a Web site building class in school and knew the basics and she liked her mom’s idea.
She figured she would only need to spend an hour or two a week building her Web site so she bought
Site Build It!
which was quick-and-easy to use and included all of the software she could possibly need.
For the next year, Amy worked an average of 2 hours a week during the school year (and more during Holiday breaks and in the summer) on creating her Web site. She signed up (no cost) with some Affiliate Programs which paid her a commission when people clicked from her site to theirs and bought their products.
Amy added links to a few of their favorite salons in their town and when the salon welcomed a new paying client that found them through Amy’s site, the salon paid her a Referral Fee.
Soon Amy applied to the Google Adsense Program and was accepted. This allowed Amy to put Google Ads on her site from which she earns a small amount of income every day! (It’s her favorite stat to check!)
Two Years Later
Amy is now 17. She has had her site for almost 2 years and it’s earning her FAR more income that she could ever make at a part time job. She enjoys the creativity involved in building her site and can work on it whenever she chooses. Since she is very active at school, there are weeks when she has NO time to attend to her site. But Amy doesn’t worry, because she still keeps on earning passive income. She is receiving more and more traffic to her Hair Styling site and can now visualize the potential with it for her future.
Amy and her Mom have talked about how she will be able to continue to grow and develop what has now become an online/internet business and take it with her wherever she goes.
While at college/university, Amy can work on her small business from her dorm room, at the library or in a café. She can work on it when it fits in with her class and study schedule. Her income will continue to increase as she builds and it will help supplement, if not end up paying for her college education.
Are you starting to see the possibilities? The internet has opened up endless opportunities for anyone, even our kids, to earn residual income. Sure, lots of kids CAN build their own Web site. But with a little help and guidance from mom and dad, they can develop their hobbies and interests into long term, income generating virtual businesses.
Something To Ponder
Think of the teenage girl who builds away on her own Web site (based on her favorite hobby) throughout college/university. It’s possible she may never have to take a 9–5 job. If she marries and has children, she can continue building her business and be able to stay home with her children if she chooses.
Or consider the teenage boy who develops his own Web site (based on his favorite activity) throughout college/university. He too may never have to work a 9–5 job, but rather can apply his education to the strong foundation of his already established internet business. If he marries and has children, he will already have the much envied autonomy to choose to work from home, take vacations around his kid’s holidays and perhaps even branch out into other related areas.
The possibilities for kids (and anyone) to build their own money-making, residual income earning, internet based businesses are endless.
Kids building Web sites and turning them into flexible internet businesses will grow up learning necessary life skills such as:
- Time Management
- Budgeting
- Entrepreneurial Skills
- Computer Skills
- Enhanced Creativity
Wouldn’t you rather they were developing all of the above rather than randomly surfing, gaming or possibly falling into the dangers that lurk on the World Wide Web?
