Recently our family decided to order pizza for dinner. The Pizza place we usually order from was closed for remodeling. I suggested to one of the kids to look in the Yellow Pages. " That is SO lame, Mom. Who uses the yellow pages anymore?" Then my youngest asked "What are Yellow Pages?!"

Now, since I spend a considerable amount of time on the internet researching (good stuff for you "nichers"), I guess it WAS a pretty lame suggestion. Although I knew how to find other Pizza Places online, I asked the kids just to see if they knew. One said "you just punch in pizza+Geneva" which we promptly did. Wow ! 17 choices. Can we narrow this down any? So we keyed in "pizza+West Geneva" and ordered up. 45 minutes later we were enjoying pizza.

While eating, I asked my youngest how she would find out about a favorite girl's store. She said she would instant message (IM) her friends and ask them. I asked my son how he would find out what movies were showing. He would go online. My teenage child is always on the computer so I didn't even ask her.

An Indicator

What do you think? Is this an indicator of how our next generation will find things locally? A resounding Yes! Ask children, teens and 20/30 somethings about finding a local business online and you will undoubtedly gain lots of insight. 40's and beyond are quickly joining the internet force for local searches as well.
