Keywords
Keywords? What are those? We cannot stress enough the importance of understanding what a keyword is when it comes to building your small business Web site. Why? Because they are how people find you online. They are the most important aspect of creating an effective Web site to promote your WAHM business. Offline, things work differently. Think about how potential customers/clients find local small business they are looking for. More than likely it's by one or more of the following... - Location
- Referral
- Reputation
- Visibility
Yet online, people won't find your small business Web site by any of those... at least not at first. Online, the first thing most surfers do is key-a-word (get it ;-) into a Search Engine like Google in order to find what they are looking for. Once they key a word in, they will receive pages of results known as Search Engine Results Pages (SERP's). Your goal is to be on the first two pages of those results (SERP's) for at least one of your Web site's pages.
What "Keywords" Tell Your Audience
The keyword phrases for your site's pages should tell your target audience...What your small business is about and what you offer in every way imaginable. All of those "ways" make up the pages on your site each focusing on a specific aspect of your small business. Online, these are known as a keyword-focused content pages (KFCPs). Each page on your site is made up of quality information which focuses on one aspect of your business and is how surfers find YOU rather than your competitors when doing a search on Google. A surfer will read the title and description (provided by you) and click on a link to visit (hopefully!) you. This is the very best way to receive traffic to your site. These descriptions are snippets of content, rather than ads and are, therefore, more credible to your visitors. Why? Because they won't feel like they are being "sold" to. People resist clicking on ads. Your description which focuses on one specific aspect of your small business is highly targeted. Your visitor entered a word or phrase, read your page's description and now they feel smart because they found what they were looking for! It doesn't get any better than that when finding open-to-buy customers! And the best part? It's free. Relevant Keywords = Free Targeted Traffic To Your Small Business Web site! Bottom line...people search for information online using words. Your job is to provide that information via your site's high value keyword-focused content pages. When one of your KFCPs is found by a surfer who used your specific word, well... You've got business!
