Here are some suggestions to get you thinking...
Discover/Rediscover Your Hobby
What's your favorite pastime or activity?
If you already have one in mind, skip to the following section.
If not, here are a few ideas to help that long lost hobby re-emerge.
Look Through Mementos/Photos
Do you have a memento box somewhere? If so, go and get it now. Do you have photos from when you were a child, young adult or even from just 10 years ago? If you do, bring them out! Now you will do a little time traveling. No, this is not silly. This is actually a pretty healthy exercise. It will stimulate your memories and somewhere in the mementos and photos you may begin to remember some of the things you enjoyed before "busy-ness" got in the way. Did you used to draw, paint, take photos, swim, golf, bird watch, write poetry, explore, collect rocks, sew, quilt, bead, fish, woodwork, etc? Stretch your imagination like a child. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as you feel stimulated about re-visiting that long forgotten pastime. Look very closely at your photos. Pull out school memory/year books and read what your friends and teachers wrote. Glance at your school report cards and try to remember what classes you enjoyed and why. Read between the lines of things you wrote. What do the little trinkets represent? Are there ribbons? medals? What do you remember? Did you like certain seasons? How did you spend your free time? Did you have a lot of friends or a few close ones? Did you work during the summers?
Focus and Reflect
If you focus and spend time doing this exercise, SOMETHING is bound to emerge. At first it may be a bit hazy or you may clearly remember an interest that you have abandoned long ago. Does the thought excite you? Fill you with anticipation?
Give yourself a few days and be sure to write down your thoughts.
Have you discovered an old interest? Does it still excite you today? Can you imagine how much fun it might be to re-develop that interest again? We bet there is so much more to learn!
If you didn't come up with anything, don't worry. We have lots of other suggestions for brainstorming.
Build a Hobby-Related Business
Once you have an idea or two in mind, think of your hobby in terms of a Web site. No, we are not kidding! Anyone can build a Web site these days. Technology has made it so easy that even my kids are doing it! Yep, tweeners and teens. More on doing a Web site in just a bit. For now, start to think about everything you need in order to have a past-time like yours. Resources, books, organizing products, ANYTHING at all that would make it more enjoyable.
Write It Down!
Why are you doing this? Think about it for a moment. YOU would buy all of the items you need to enjoy your special interest, right? Well it's entirely possible that you could SELL those very items on your own Web site that's all about your favorite hobby. Are your wheels spinning yet? We thought so! Keep reading...and DON'T discount the Web site idea. Once you get going on this, you are going to LOVE it! Okay, let's take stock. You have some ideas, and some potential products, necessities, etc. that you might be able to offer to hobby enthusiasts.
