Creativity Consultant

Here's a niche that is wide open... Creativity Consultant. If you have a knack for thinking creatively, you can take this idea and fly with it!

Our suggestions here apply only to home-based and very small businesses. Large companies are out of our areas of expertise.

Due to the nature of the Internet, home-based and small businesses around the world are actively seeking creative marketing ideas to promote their businesses on the internet.

Frequently, these business owners are experts in what their business is "about." However, many do not have the marketing skills they need to compete in the online world. And marketing online is much different than marketing offline. In the offline world, it's all about location, location, location. Online? It's about information, information, information.

Established Small Businesses Moving Online

"Brick and Mortars" are quickly moving online as they recognize the power of the internet for promoting their local businesses. If these owners are not fluent in the world of "online" they hire Web site designers and pay handsomely for these services. The designer they hire may create a beautiful Web site for them but then what? The designer very often does not teach the small business owner how to market their business using the Web site. Their intentions may be honest, however if they create a nice looking site and put up lots of advertising copy, people are not going to be able to find this site. Why? Not enough information. If the Web site does not provide the information that their visitor is looking for, they will click away in a moment and look elsewhere.

All this equates to an ineffective Web site for the business owner.

So the business owner must then pay additional (often exhorbitant) fees to have the Web designer (or someone else) come up with ways to get people to visit their Web site. As you can imagine all this can get very expensive. In fact many small business owners have gone through what I have just described and then scratched the whole Web site deciding that the web does nothing for their business. This could not be further from the truth! What they need is a Creativity Consultant (a.k.a. creative idea generator with internet marketing knowledge).

While being able to think creatively and come up with unique marketing ideas for small businesses is key to becoming a Creativity Consultant, having internet marketing knowledge is a definite plus. If you feel you have the first, and would like to learn more about internet marketing for home based and small businesses, there are a gazillion resources available. We've read many, many internet marketing books and have found two that really shine without trying to sell you a whole ton of software, products and tools.

Check out Sharon Fling's How To Promote Your Local Business On The Internet for a multitude of ways to help business owners promote their local businesses creatively. Once you've read Sharon's Guide, you will be able to apply her ideas to nearly any type of business as a Creativity Consultant. Add your own creative flair and you can blossom in this niche quite quickly.

There's another great resource which is about writing (business-specific) creative content. It's called Make Your Content Pre-Sell written by Dr. Ken Evoy. The "pre-sell" idea makes so much sense because no one likes to be "sold" or "pitched" to. Dr. Evoy, covers the importance of creating unique content written in an easy-to-read "voice" or "tone." Essentially you write content to warm people up to the idea of whatever the business is about (begin to establish trust) and then when they feel ready to find out more, they are in a "ready to purchase/hire" frame of mind rather than running away from heavy selling. It's a very effective online technique which can help move any type of business ahead of their competition. But you have to be creative with your ideas and content. And you have to continuously keep things "fresh."

It's A New Niche

The idea for Creativity Consultant is a very new niche. This type of niche can work especially well for those who want to work at home.

You do not need to be established as an Internet Conslutant which is a hugely competitive field online. You can start this niche with one or two offline businesses who either have an ineffective Web site or would like to hire an "idea generator."

You can choose to seek out small businesses in a field you are familiar with. On the other hand, you can choose to offer your services to any home-based or small business who needs creative new marketing ideas to use on the internet. As we mentioned, the Creativity Consultant niche is wide open and rapidly growing in demand.

You could also start up in this niche by creating your own Web site to market your Creativity Consultant services. If you have Web site building experience, great! If not, there is an all-in-one Web site building, hosting and marketing tool called Site Build It! We like Site build It! because you don't have to be "techie" and their site builder is super easy to use.

When we wanted to start our own Web sites, we found some very inexpensive Web site hosts. You've probably seen some of them..."we'll host your Web site for only $9.99 per year" blah, blah, blah. AND THEN WHAT? we ask. Sorry, it's just that when we first started online, these types of sales ploys wasted a lot of our time. We kept asking "but then what?" and it took us months to figure some things out.

Hosting, it turns out, is not expensive. It's necessary, yes, but if you're going to invest in something, invest in learning how to market yourself (and market others if that will be your business.) Which brings us back to Site Build It! This software is so good it's hard to convince people. All their marketing resources are written in a nice friendly, "you-can-do-it!" tone and they cover just about any type of internet marketing knowledge you'll ever need to know. They update and add modules constantly, And the best part? we've used their software for 2 years and they have never raised the price! Well enough about that, you can check that out further if it's of interest to you.

Add Other Sources Of Income

Okay, where were we? Oh yes, you can start a Creativity Consultant niche offline or online but we recommend you do both. Building a Web site to promote your services will quickly add credibility and you will be able to add income streams using your site. You won't need to rely entirely on the fees you charge for consulting either. You can become an affiliate of programs such as Idea Fisher. Add links to them and other related products and resources which your small business clients may be looking for. When your clients and/or other visitors to your site buy from these links, you earn an affiliate commission.

You can also develop a relationship with local (friends?) Web designers, Web content writers and Web site editors and refer each other. When a referral hires you, you receive a referral fee.

There are many other ways to add income streams to the Creativity Consultant niche but our intent here is to give you the idea and a few thoughts about how to get things started. If the Creativity Consultant idea interests you, you can develop it based on YOUR knowledge and passion.

No matter what niche idea appeals to you, just remember that the internet has empowered anyone who has a computer, some motivation and a great passion for something to develop it into an online business niche.

We wish you all the best.
